Through the Eye of the Storm

October 2, 2021

“Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day.” Or, at least just leave our wedding alone, ok? 😁

Those were the sentiments of a photographer who heard an early October Saturday forecast calling for torrential downpours to hit the Chicago area—including the backyard wedding of Meghan and Austin.

Arriving at the Lindquist residence in Hampshire, IL it looked as if the rain would not go away, as a dark lines of clouds brewed in the distance, appearing to head our way.

Wasting no time, we got Meghan and Austin outside almost immediately to capture portraits of them on the grounds of the house that was serving as the location for their wedding. Playful laughs, longing looks, a few sweet kisses, and great banter punctuated the moments as we got some adorable images of the couple.

As the once-seemingly-impending rain seemed to have slowed down, we were excited that we wouldn’t need to use Plan B, and were able to not only wrap up the couples’ shots, but have the wedding progress as normally scheduled in the back yard.

An intimate ceremony that was witnessed by approximately 50 of their friends and family followed. Giggles and “awww”s punctuated the ceremony as Meghan and Austin shared vows and some moving moments of their life together.

After the ceremony, and with a huge doughnut-like hole over us, keeping any rain away, we got Meghan and Austin and their families together to take some both lovely and wonderfully-silly images capturing the serious and fun sides of both families.

That doughnut-shaped hole seemed to stay with us as we headed to Meghan and Austin’s reception, held at their home in Johnsburg. While dark clouds (and hints of rain) could be seen in the distance in every direction, the reception was blessed—outside of a few drops—with no rain.

And those dark clouds? They were offset by a light and airy vibe from a group of wedding guests soaking in the love and happiness that were Meghan and Austin.

Meghan and Austin did their First Dance to “I’ll Follow You Down” by Shinedown—quite the appropriate song given that part of the lyrics include “I’ll follow you down through the eye of the storm”. Serendipity, anyone? 😁

And that rain? It stayed away after all, allowing us to get a killer late-evening silhouette of Meghan and Austin as the evening wrapped up. Love, and nursery rhymes, for the win!
